K&B ROSEN

Kunst & Bau

K&B Rosen develops site-specific works at the intersection of public art, architecture, and civic space. South Florida roots, global focus.

Introduction

K&B Rosen is an artist-led public-art and creative-development company. The practice works between disciplines—art, architecture, landscape, engineering, and civic planning—to produce work that responds directly to its site, whether developed alongside a project's design and construction or created for a civic space that is already built.

The practice is led by a Swiss-American team, bringing together Geneva-based artistic practice with project execution rooted in South Florida.

Kunst & Bau, the German term for "art and construction," describes a long tradition of embedding artistic practice within the building process itself. K&B Rosen continues that tradition for contemporary public and private developments.

Ways of Working

K&B Rosen engages public-art work through several models—from early collaboration with developers and architects to embed artwork within a project's design and construction, to site-responsive commissions for existing civic infrastructure and public spaces such as transit corridors, public parks, airports, and municipal programs, developed through formal public-art procurement processes. The practice remains open to new forms of collaboration as each project and partner requires.

Project

Plötzlich diese Untersicht

View from Prieta Beach Golf Club Jacuzzi, 2025

Acrylic on primed drywall · approx. 10 × 6 m
Private collection, Guanacaste, Costa Rica

A painted ceiling fresco covering the full span of a residential interior, executed directly on primed drywall. The composition takes the position of a viewer lying back and looking upward—a tropical canopy of branches, ferns, and palms opening onto sky, with macaws crossing overhead.

The work was made for a space that was already built. Rather than treating the ceiling as a surface to decorate, the painting reorganizes how the room is read from below: the architecture's own edges, beams, and recessed fixtures are absorbed into the canopy, and the ceiling plane appears to give way.

Mood Paintings

2013

Wall painting · dimensions variable
Exhibited in Switzerland, Mexico, and Costa Rica, 2013–2024

The colors used for Mood Paintings originate from exhibition room walls in different art museums. Each color is first determined by a Sikkens Colorado color scanner, then recreated as an exact tone by a paint shop.

Applied at architectural scale, the works take the measure of the rooms that hold them—a stairwell, a gallery, a domestic interior—so that the painting and the space are read together rather than separately.
